Frequently asked questions

What is the best pickleball paddle for beginners?
The best beginner paddle offers forgiveness, control, and predictable feel. The 11SIX24 Vapor Jelly Bean 16mm at $99.99 is a strong first pick: a 16mm control paddle with a large sweet spot and a high twist weight for the price.
How much should a beginner spend on a pickleball paddle?
Plan on $80 to $100 for a first paddle. That range gets you a carbon-fiber 16mm control paddle from a real brand. Paddles under $50 tend to be a false economy, and you do not need to spend $200 or more to start well.
Should beginners use a control paddle or a power paddle?
Control first. You can add power as your mechanics improve, but you cannot add control to a paddle that does not have it. A control paddle builds the resets, dinks, and consistency that win games.
Is a 14mm or 16mm paddle better for beginners?
16mm. A thicker core gives you more control, a softer feel, and a bigger margin on soft shots. A 14mm core adds pop most beginners do not need yet and shrinks the room for error.
What paddle shape is best for beginners?
Standard or hybrid shapes are best. They offer the largest sweet spots and the most forgiveness. Elongated paddles add reach and power but punish the off-center contact beginners still make.
Are cheap two-pack paddles on Amazon worth it?
No. They feel dead, twist on mishits, and get replaced fast. A single $80 control paddle from a real brand lasts longer and teaches you more about how a quality paddle responds.
How do I measure grip size?
Hold the paddle in your normal grip and check whether the index finger of your other hand fits in the gap between your fingertips and your palm. If it fits snugly the grip is about right. If there is no room, size down. Most players use 4.0 to 4.25 inches.
Does paddle weight matter for beginners?
Yes. Aim for a static weight around 7.8 to 8.1 oz and a swing weight of 105 to 117. Too light can feel unstable, and too heavy slows your hands during fast exchanges at the net.
Which paddle on this list has the highest measured spin RPM?
PIKKL Hurricane Pro 16mm — 2320 rpm, camera-measured on the same protocol as every other paddle I test.
Which paddle on this list has the fastest measured serve speed?
Honolulu Pickleball Co. J2NF 16mm — 60.4 mph, radar-gun tested.
What is the cheapest paddle on this list?
Pickleball Apes Harmony S 16mm at $80.
