Frequently asked questions

Which Engage paddle should I buy?
The X2 Widebody for most players, at $259.99. The X2 Elongated is the one I play, but that's because I want the reach. If you'd rather keep $60 and have a durable-grit face, the Axiom is $199.99 and carries both approvals. You can buy all three of them today. The X3 Pro is a fourth once it's on sale and I've measured it.
Why do you play the X2 Elongated if you recommend the Widebody?
Reach and the 5.5-inch handle. I take a full cut from the baseline, and I want extra drive power. The widebody is the more forgiving paddle. Check out the numbers: twist weight 7.1 against 6.0, Control Score 76 against 49. Most people are better off with the forgiveness than with my extra half inch of reach (and power).
What's the difference between the X2 Elongated and the X2 Widebody?
Shape and stability. Same $259.99, same dual-density foam core, same surface. The widebody holds up better when you catch the ball out toward the edges, and it swings lighter despite weighing more on the scale. The elongated gives you more power.
Are Engage paddles still made in the USA?
No, not the current lines. Engage was founded in 2015 by the Elliott family in The Villages, Florida, and built its reputation on domestic manufacturing. Engage moved manufacturing and R&D overseas in 2025 and opened an office in Ho Chi Minh City. In his words, the long story short is that China caught up. If made-in-USA is a hard requirement for you, Engage no longer meets it.
When does the Engage X3 Pro come out?
Engage says pre-orders open around the end of September at $229.99. It's a 16mm elongated with a full foam core, and it's UPA-A approved only, so it won't be legal at USAP events. I have one. It's super gritty and it appears to have a more durable grit, but I don't know how well it will actually hold up until I get at least 30 hours on the paddle.
Is the X2 Pro legal for tournaments?
It's UPA-A approved only, so it isn't legal in USAP-sanctioned events. The X2 Elongated, X2 Widebody and Axiom all carry both approvals.
Does the X2 need weighted tape?
In my opinion, the elongated does. A gram at 3 and 9 brings twist weight from 6.0 toward 7 and costs almost nothing in swing weight, but the higher you go the more you increase the swing weight. Don't put weight at 12. Balance already sits at 24.7 cm on a 7.88 oz frame and tip weight only slows your hands. The widebody is at 7.1 stock and also plays great stock.
Why don't you recommend the Pursuit Pro1 paddles?
Generally speaking, more antiquated technology, and I think their foam cores are better all-around performers.
Is Engage part of the JOOLA patent lawsuit?
Yes. The ITC action JOOLA filed on April 7, 2026 names 12 brands including Engage. Paddletek and ProXR settled, and Engage remains a defendant. I wrote up the filing and the full list of named brands separately.
